Academy Overview
Mattie T. Blount High School (BHS) Career Academies will offer students a unique style of comprehensive secondary education. These academies are designed to foster academic success, professionalism and personal growth while preparing students for the waiting workforce through hands on experiences, job shadowing, and Internship experiences. Additionally, BHS Career Academies will promote a rigorous curriculum aligned to District, State, and Federal guidelines coupled with a lasting relationship with business and industry.
The Academy of Health Science is a specialized program designed to prepare students for a variety of entry level health careers. Students will experience learning in an actual health care environment and obtain information on educational choices, career opportunities, and technical requirements. Students who participate in this program will be inspired and challenged to reach their full potential. Our Career Academy will provide stimulating programs that will prepare our scholars with college readiness skills connecting them with careers that are essential to the workforce of tomorrow. For those students who desire to study in a direction outside of the health care pathway, BHS offers pathways in the following academies: Business, Hospitality and Tourism, Leadership(JROTC), and Construction, Manufacturing, and Transportation (Faulkner Career Tech Center).
Upon completion of a chosen pathway, students will test in his or her area of concentration in hopes of receiving credentialing and/or certification thus enhancing their marketable skills. Moreover, other students may choose to continue his or her studies in an institute of higher learning.
